Update: Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau announced after the game that x-rays on Jalen Brunson's knee came back negative. He has a contusion and is day-to-day.

A Knicks season with so much promise might be teetering as the team suffered perhaps it’s most significant injury to date, losing Jalen Brunson early Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brunson went down with a non-contact injury on the team’s first position of the game. He took a jumper from the top of the key, and began hobbling awkwardly after landing before going to the ground. He cradled his leg for several seconds, then stood and tried to walk it off before crumpling back to the floor. He eventually made his way to the locker room.

Brunson made his first career All-Star game last month. He ranks sixth in the league in points (27.7) and 13th in assists (6.7). New York’s odds fell from +2300 to +3900 to win the title at FanDuel immediately following his injury.

Brunson's the latest key Knick to suffer a significant injury. Julius Randle’s been out since late January after dislocating his shoulder while OG Anunoby remains out after having elbow surgery to remove a loose bone fragment. He appeared in only 14 games after bring traded to New York on Dec. 30. The return date for both players remains fluid.

The Knicks entered Sunday’s contest in fourth place in the East.
